Performance Biography

Micaela Murphy, Viola, is an active artist and musician within the Cleveland Ohio community and beyond. Receiving first prize at several competitions, she has won performances soloing with orchestras across the Midwest Region, including the Springfield Drury Orchestra, Ozarks Youth Orchestra, Ozark Festival Orchestra, and has received honorable mention at the Ohio Viola Society Competition. 

In addition to her solo career, she is an avid orchestral musician, holding section and substitute positions with the Snowbelt Symphony and Akron Symphony Orchestra and the principal viola positions at the Suburban Symphony Orchestra and Cleveland Institute of Music’s Orchestra. 

She has participated in and received numerous fellowships from several summer music festivals, including Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Encore Chamber Music Festival, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and received a fellowship at the National Orchestral Institute. 

As an dynamic artist,  Ms. Murphy has performed at prestigious venues such as Severance Hall, Playhouse Square, Kauffman Center (Kansas City, MO) and has collaborated with other creatives such as Ill Divo, The George Martins, Carl Topilow, Frank Cohen (former principal clarinet of The Cleveland Orchestra), Michael Stern (Conductor of the Kansas City Symphony), and has performed on live on the Radio Station on 91.9 Classical KC and WRUW in Cleveland.

Ms. Murphy received her Bachelors in Viola Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Jeffrey Irvine, Lynne Ramsey, Cavani Quartet, and Suzuki Pedagogy from Kimberely Meier-Sims. 

When not performing or teaching, Ms. Murphy loves running, yoga, exploring the outside, discovering cute coffee shops, and spending quality time with her dog Eleanor, as well as with friends and family.

Teaching Biography

Micaela Murphy has devoted herself to being a dedicated Violin and Viola Instructor in the Cleveland, Ohio Area. With over 12 years of teaching experience, Ms. Murphy has a passion for teaching and sharing her love for music with students of all ages and levels. 

Ms. Murphy studied Viola pedagogy under Jeffery Irvine and received her Suzuki Registration under Mrs. Kimberly Meier-Sims both at the Cleveland Institute of Music. 

Dedicated to her craft, she owns and operates ‘The Viola Studio’ for committed and older Viola students and is the co-owner and co-director of Lakewood Suzuki Strings, which is for beginner students and their families. In addition, Ms. Murphy is on faculty at the prestigious Murphy Music Academy, where she is a frequent guest artist in providing Viola Education Videos for the public.  Devoted to providing education to the community, Ms. Murphy is the viola coach for the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, where she provides Viola Sectionals and small chamber coachings. 

Ms. Micaela teaches masterclasses with the Ohio Viola Society’s Viola Day, where viola instructors around the world gather to connect and teach masterclasses to other students.

The students of the Viola Studio are incredibly devoted to their craft and rate high on all OMEA state playing competitions, have won section and principal positions in several youth orchestra auditions and Community Orchestras. 

Ms. Murphy believes that teaching is more than instructing music, but through striving for excellence it nurtures the confidence, grit, discipline, and self-esteem, that are necessary for success in every area of life.
